Here is the information you will need for Summer Term 1 in Reception.
Our Year R team is:
Miss Shepherd – GR teacher/ Karen Kelleher – RR teacher
Mrs Tildesley – GR assistant/Zoe Dormady – RR assistant
Meyrem Mustafa – GR learning support assistant/Mel Mykels- RR learning support assistant
Our topic is:
‘Transport’. The children will be learning about different types of transport and ways to travel in the world around us. Each week we will focus on a different ways to get around, focussing on transport in our local environment, sea travel and travel by air.
Children now have an Independent Learning project book. They project book is a place for your child to draw and write, following their own interests or if you prefer, to follow our theme of ‘Transport’. Your class teacher will send you a few ideas linked to our topic to start you off. You can use the project book to record places you have visited together, activities you have tried at home or simply practice writing the new sounds we have been learning in Phonics. Please feel free to stick in photographs and scribe what your child says into the book. This book can be brought to and from school as often as you like for your child to share with the class teacher and other children.
The children will be visiting Greenwich Maritime Museum. Please look out for a letter from your class teacher about this.
This term the children will beginning Guided Reading groups with their class teacher as part of our Literacy Wheel activities. They will also begin formal handwriting practice each week. As always, the children’s reading experiences at home play a huge part in their progress in reading. Please ensure you read for at least 5-10 minutes with your child every day and write a comment in your child’s reading journal. If you are having any trouble with this, please see your child’s class teacher immediately.
