Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Red 4!
We hope you have had a lovely summer! As you may already know, my name is Mrs Sarna and I am the class teacher along with our other class teacher who is Mrs Shuttleworth. We are looking forward to a wonderful year of teaching and learning with Red 4! The class TA is Mrs Mulumba.
Our topic for this term is ‘Identity – How are we connected?’ where we will be learning about who we are, our families and what links us all together. In English, we are reading Islandborn by Junot Diaz.
P.E will be on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child brings their P.E kit in every Tuesday. The School P.E kit consists of; a white T-shirt and blue bottoms (or shorts). I am happy for your child to leave their PE kit at school for the half term when it will then be sent home and washed.
We will be having swimming this half term on a Thursday. Please ensure that children bring their swimming kit with them ever week or will be unable to attend this fabulous opportunity we are given in helping them to learn to swim. Their swimming kit should consist of a swimming costume/trunks, a towel and a swim hat. Children may also wish to wear swimming goggles.
Home reading makes a real difference to children’s learning and progress. Thank you in advance for your support. It would be great if you could spend 10/15 minutes each evening reading with your child, please then sign the journal. The journal needs to be signed before we can change your child’s book. The children will have the opportunity to change their books as and when they please every morning.
Just to remind you that school starts at 8:50 and finishes at 3:15. Children can come straight up to the classroom from 8:45.
If you are unable to collect your child, please contact the school office with details of who will be collecting them.
Please make sure the office has up to date details of any allergies or medical conditions your child has. Also, please ensure we have the correct contact details for you.
Our school can get quite warm throughout the year and children may need to take their jumpers off at some stage in the day. We currently have 28 children in R4 all wearing similar sized school jumpers. Please help the R4 team and your child by marking their name clearly in all items of clothes, including P.E kits.
An Independent Learning Project will be sent home each half term. Your child will receive an Independent Learning book however please feel free to use other materials from home. All projects will be displayed at the end of each half term so please ensure your child does their project. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to use a variety of skills to show their knowledge of the topic. The children will also receive spellings and maths homework every Wednesday. The Maths work will help prepare your child for the following week’s lessons. Spellings will be tested every Wednesday.
Please ensure your child brings their book bag and has an appropriate jacket/coat with them in school every day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please come and see us. We are available after school if there is anything you would like to discuss. Feel free to come and have a chat! Alternatively, you can leave messages for us in the office and one of us will call you back as soon as we possibly can.
