Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Year 6!
Our Year 6 team this year is:
Mr Biffin – Red 6 teacher
Mr Rose – Green 6 teacher
Ms Wallbridge – Green 6 teacher
>Ms Martin - Green 6 Teaching Assistant
Ms Aylward – Red 6 teaching Assistant
This term, in Year 6, our topic is ‘Get Up, Stand Up’. The children will be learning about South Africa’s apartheid and making comparisons with events in the UK and the wider world.
In English, the books we will be studying are ‘Way Home’ and ‘Journey to Jo’burg’. During Mathematics lessons, the children will be learning number and place value, addition and subtraction, properties of shapes, multiplication and division, fractions, and position and direction. In Science we will be learning about animals, including humans.
PE kits need to be brought in on a Friday (Red Six) and a Wednesday (Green Six). Homework will be learning weekly spellings, practising times tables and reading for 20-30 minutes a day. Children are given reading books from the class library which can be exchanged for a new one once they have read it. These are signed out in class. A yellow reading record book should be completed by children daily. We would like parents to comment once a week. The record book should be handed in each Monday.
Your child has been issued with an Independent Learning book today. In here you will find the suggested homework tasks for our topic (Ninja learning). The projects are due in on Thursday 13th October. We will celebrate the work by critiquing it and awarding a range of prizes.
We look forward to working with you – if you have any questions or concerns, please feel to make an appointment to talk with us after school.
