Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year and Welcome Back!
The Year 3 team are extremely excited about the term ahead. Our topic for this term is ‘How do things change over time?’ We will be reading the book ‘Pebble in my Pocket’ written by Meredith Hooper It’s an interesting tale of the journey a rock goes through over time. Its themes of evolution, growth and development are fantastic themes to open the new year with. In maths we will be looking at fractions and measurement. Our project will link closely to these themes as children start to consider how things change and develop over time physically around the world. It is an opportunity for children to start to understand the impact they have on shaping our world.
Both G3 and R3 will have swimming sessions this term at St Thomas the Apostle School on Thursdays. Please ensure that your child has appropriate swimming kit and towel. Please ensure that your child has the correct equipment for their lessons, they will need; swimming trunks/costume, towel and a swimming hat (these can be purchased from the school office or local sports shops).
Please ensure your child brings in their book bag every day. It would be fantastic if you could spend 15/20 minutes each evening reading with your child, then sign the journal. The journal comments can be completed by your child. Journals will be checked on a Monday and Friday; we expect to see a minimum of 5 entries each week. Thank you for your support.
Homework & Independent Learning
Children will receive Independent Learning projects this term and children will receive regular homework dependant on the learning for that week. The children will also receive a list of spellings and a times table to learn each week to be tested on Fridays each week.
